The education of today’s chiropractic doctors is highly regulated and requires four years of intensive study. Part and parcel of the chiropractic curriculum are basic sciences. Some students wonder whether or not the amount of time spent in these endeavors could not be spent better by learning the core applications that will later on help them in their practice with patients. While at face value this might be a reasonable request, it soon becomes obvious that basic sciences is actually a most crucial aspect in the training of the next generation of chiropractors.
Basic sciences within the chiropractic curriculum usually refer to the study of biochemistry, pathology, physiology, anatomy, and even microbiology. These subject areas appear to only be tangentially related to chiropractics as a field, but under closer scrutiny they soon make it quite apparent that in fact a well rounded chiropractic cannot be accomplished without them. After all, how better to teach a student the many different ways in which abnormalities in a patient’s body might present. Sure, every student will be able to recognize an abnormally curved spine, yet the fine points of abnormality, especially beginning abnormalities in their early stages, usually require significant training that can only be had by mastering the basic sciences.
Add to this the fact that some abnormalities can be detected as early as they appear on the cellular level, and the notion that biochemistry as well as microbiology are requires suddenly does not appear as such a waste of time anymore. Of course, anatomy is a mainstay in the chiropractic field, since it will help the student to understand the proximity of organs to the nerves of the spine, and will also help the aspiring chiropractor to have a healthy respect for the many problems that could arise from improper care, thus stressing the need for interdisciplinary knowledge when treating the patient as a whole rather than just a problem area.
For the chiropractic doctor who will be practicing in the United States, the basic sciences are an integral part in the process of becoming a primary care physician and will help the health care professional to read, understand, and use the information provided by other medical professionals. In addition to the foregoing, as part of a medical team treating a patient, she or he is now able to adequately communicate with the other medical professionals as well, thus increasing the patient’s chances of receiving quality medical care and attaining a healing that will last in the long term rather than receiving a short term fix.
To be sure, basic sciences are very much the basis on which the chiropractic curriculum builds itself, and develops the aspiring chiropractors’ understanding and appreciation of the physical aspects she or he will be dealing with in the clinical setting. Any chiropractic student who thinks they can make do without this information will be sadly mistaken and find that a lack of knowledge in basic sciences will usually lead to a lot of catching up in the higher courses.

There are times in the life of a chiropractor when the diagnosis of subluxation is not necessary to state the fact that a patient suffers from degenerative disc disease. Oftentimes described by sufferers as excruciating shooting pains that originate in the lower back, this condition affects the discs that are cushioning the vertebrae or segmental portions of the spine. Many tend to think of these discs as simply being round in shape but this is a somewhat misleading idea. Consider the fact that these discs not only lie between the vertebrae, but that they also form ligaments which in fact hold the vertebrae in place rather than allowing too much of a range of motion.
In the young and unharmed body, the discs are squishy and readily give way a time of movement. Yet with the years that age the body, the discs do not remain flexible and easily move, but instead they degenerate and suddenly they become a large liability to the healthy functioning of the spine. Take for example the dreaded ailment known as spinal stenosis which presents as a compression of the spinal cord and will cause the sufferer to not only experience the lower back pain aforementioned, but might even cause discomfort in the legs, which is usually the warning sign that causes a sufferer to look for some treatment. Oftentimes, it is the chiropractor who gets the call for an appointment, and with the help of medical imaging, this ailment can be quickly diagnosed.
Another form of degenerative disc disease occurs when the discs slip and slightly change their positions. This in turn will lead to a rubbing of vertebrae against one another or even the pinching of nerves between them. This is quite possible one of the most often observed problems in the chiropractor’s office. Sufferers will sometimes report that they experience an odd tingling or a dull pain while walking. The pain may not be enough to keep the sufferer from doing daily exercising or engaging in activities, but it does present a painful reminder that all is not well. Chiropractics are usually sought out to either supplement a regimen of traditional medical intervention, or in extreme cases it might be an effort to avoid painful back surgery.
While chiropractics do not offer a magic bullet for those suffering from degenerative disc disease, it does provide a number of services that spell hope even for the most extreme sufferers. Take for example the fact that since chiropractics are a form of alternative medicine, and many in this field are familiar in an interdisciplinary way with nutrition and exercise. In addition to manipulating your spine, a skilled chiropractor will be able to also suggest a dietary regimen that will aid your discs to such an extent that some regeneration may occur. In addition to the foregoing, because of the close ties between the athletic community and the field of chiropractics, there is a good chance that your chiropractor will be provide you with a number of exercises that you need to follow to keep yourself limber, and your spine healthy.

Back Pain Exercise: Stretching Works Almost For Every Kind Of Back Pain
Back pain is very common ailment that affects almost everyone today. There are many reasons why your back might ache including from injuries or from muscles stress or from making a false movement. To be on the safe side it pays to learn about basic back pain exercise that can provide you with much needed relief every time that your back begins to hurt. Of course, you could opt for bed rest but this is not the ideal solution because prolonged time in bed can give rise to its own complement of problems including stiffened joints and ligaments.
More Than Getting Relief
However,
back pain exercise is not to be done just to get relief from stiffness but it should be performed because you need to improve your health. The more back pain exercises that you do the more your body will be able to digest minerals and vitamins as well as different nutritional ingredients that must reach your disc and also the vertebrae. In fact, back pain exercises can also help to increase oxygenation of blood to the parts of your body that are hurting and this helps to accelerate the pace of healing and it also helps to repair any other problems that you may suffer from.
Of course, which kind of back pain exercise suits you will depend on your individual needs and also the severity of the back pain. You need to also learn how doing upper back pain exercise can prove to be very effective in curing lower back pain though at the same time you need to be careful that such exercises do not coincidentally cause aggravation of lower back injuries.
The best back pain exercise is doing stretching exercises that target the specific group of muscles that form a connection between the upper back thigh and the base of your spine. Such stretching exercises must permit you to extend your spine and also provide relief from pain in the parts that lie between your discs. You might also want to check out doing aerobic exercises that are great back pain exercises that can include walking and bicycling and swimming.
The more attention you pay to picking the right back pain exercise the more likely is it that you will be able to identify the right exercises for your back pain. You can also check out doing yoga and performing tai chi and other similar exercises that can prove to be very effective in curing back pain.

According to Dr. Kip Rode of Rode Chiropractic in Poway, CA, ”Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome accounts for nearly 60% of work related injuries. The American
Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons estimate that Carpal Tunnel costs $27 billion
annually in medical treatment and lost income! ”
Carpal Tunnel affects the nerve function of the hand. Do you have any of the
following symptoms? Aching of the hands and wrists, hands are numb and tingly,
trouble holding objects, or less than normal hand strength?
If you said yes to any of the above, you might have symptoms of Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome. It is most common among women between the ages of 40 to 60, but affects
men and women of all ages and occupations.
You do not need to suffer anymore. Dr. Rode says, ”Chiropractic care offers
exciting opportunities to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome without the use of surgery.
In the past, Americans received surgery to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. A new study
shows chiropractic to be equally effective to medical care, without the need for
surgery! ”
Dr. Rode says ”Increasingly patients are turning to chiropractic to treat
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Surgery should be the last resort, not the first. In 80% of
the cases where surgery has been completed, the symptoms have returned within two
years. This is why more and more American workers are seeking out chiropractic as
their first line of defense against Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. ”
Dr. Rode offers his first visit free of charge to anyone seeking treatment or
diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Dr. Kip Rode, D.C. is located at 13248 Poway Rd, Poway, CA 92064. He can be reached by telephone at 858-391-1372

According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious
Diseases, up to 50 million Americans will get the flu this year.
There are natural preventative measures that can increase your chances of escaping
this years flu season. Chiropractic care may be your answer to a clean bill of
health. Dr. Kip Rode, chiropractor and owner of Rode Chiropractic in
Poway, CA, can give your immune system a boost using all natural methods.
“Chiropractic may be a superior alternative to traditional methods of fighting the
flu, like the flu vaccine. The reason being, it uses natural methods to strengthen
the immune system and allows the body to work more efficiently, ” said Dr. Rode.
A study shown in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research in 1997 showed
chiropractic care to be effective in treating the flu. Over 2,800 individuals
received regular chiropractic care and the result was an average 15% decrease in the
incidence of colds and the flu.
According to the World Chiropractic Alliance, spinal adjustments can help your
immune system function better. An adjustment corrects what are called vertebral
subluxation ‘s, which cause interference of the nervous system. When an adjustment is
performed, it releases pressure on the nerves and allows more efficient interaction
between your body ‘s nervous system and immune system. When your immune system is
healthy it is better prepared to prevent or combat the flu.
According to Dr. Rode, preventing the flu is just one of the benefits his
patients have seen. They report less back and neck pain, fewer headaches, and more
energy. Since a large part of the population does not need the flu shot, natural
preventative methods should be a priority. Eating healthy foods, exercising, having
good hygiene, and having a healthy body are all important issues in combating the
flu.

Did you know that a person is injured at work every 5
seconds? Dr. Kip Rode of Poway, CA has announced the top 5 ways for employees to be safe and to avoid injury while at work.
Did you know that according to the United States Bureau of
Labor Statistics, every 5 seconds a worker is injured in the United States? In 1996,
the National Safety Council estimated that on-the-job injuries cost Americans $121
billion on societal expenses. Some of these include lost wages, lost productivity,
health care costs, and many other expenses.
Dr. Kip Rode, owner of Rode Chiropractic in Poway, CA, has treated work related injuries at his chiropractic office. He feels that
workplace injuries are far too common and many times can be avoided. “Most workplace
injuries that I treat are ones that are preventable. Often times they are the result
of a momentary lapse of judgment or a lack of proper safety precautions,” said Dr.
Rode.
Dr. Rode wants to help educate workers and employers how to prevent workplace
injuries. Here is a list of 5 tips to help you stay injury free while at work:
1. While working at your desk or computer, make sure that you sit with your knees
at about a 90 to 130 degree angle. Sitting with more or less of an angle can cause
strain on your back.
2. Always lift properly. Bend at the knees and use your hips when lifting. Try to
keep your back straight and the weight balanced and close to your body.
3. Exercise frequently and eat healthy. Also remember to stretch so your body is
not only strong, but flexible.
4. Take frequent stretch breaks. If you sit at your computer all day, make sure to
stretch periodically. If you stand all day, taking the load off can also help
prevent injury.
5. Get adequate sleep. Fatigue greatly increases the risk of injury.
While these are just guidelines for work safety, Dr. Rode urges his patients to
take the common sense approach. Doing anything repetitively can lead to injury. “I
tell my patients to be smart and to just try to stay alert and aware of their
workplace surroundings. With a little bit of effort, we can greatly reduce the
number of work related injuries in America,” said Dr. Rode.

Most people think of pain as an annoyance. Pain actually serves a very useful purpose. It is telling you that something is wrong and needs fixing or correction. However what most people do today is to take a pain pill that will make the pain go away. This is actually a bad idea because once the pain is gone then you are much more likely to do something which will aggravate your condition. So what you need to do is figure out why you are having you pain. Was it the first time in a while that you went to the gym and you now have sore muscles. Well that should go away in a day or two. Is it something that has been going on for months or even years? Then that definitely warrants further investigation. What happens is you may have some degeneration going on in your spine that is affecting the nerves going to your muscles. This should not be ignored. Degeneration in the spine is a progressive condition that if not stopped can lead to permanent decrease in space for the nerves to come out of the spine and greatly increases the chance of having problems now and in the future. If you are having problems, aches pains and they have been going on a long time please visit my website at Poway Chiropractic or Rode Chiropractic
